Effectively Using Storage During a Move


Advice on storing your important business documents

Clearing up space in your office is a necessary process as the time goes by. As your office space fills up with important documents, you do not want to have to rent out additional office space in order to store them. Instead, you can make the most of self-storage services. However, you cannot simply dump everything into a storage facility and be done with it.

Down the line, it is inevitable that you will need to find certain documents, something which will be impossible if you have not properly organised and packed them. Here is some advice on how to get the most out of your records management storage facility.

Make the most of the space

You need to maximise all of the space you have available to you. You should consider the storage unit as an extension to your office.  Don't just dump boxes on top of each other, you need to carefully organise them so that they are not in the way while also allowing quick and easy access to any documents that you may need.

You need to invest in some shelving units and wooden pallets. By using shelves, you are able to make great use of the wall space while wooden pallets will raise the documents from off of the ground, saving them from potential dampness and water damage.

You will need to be able to easily move around the storage space without knocking things over and feeling cramped. Therefore, you should map out the layout in advance and know exactly where you will put everything. You should leave space to walk down the centre so you can easily reach boxes that are located towards the back, on either side.

Pack properly

There is no point throwing everything into boxes without organising and protecting the documents. You won't be able to find what you need and they may become damaged due to improper packing. Make sure that you are logical and keep relevant documents together.

You should always use proper quality packing materials so that the documents are adequately protected. Never overfill boxes as they make break during the transport process or could potentially injure the person who is lifting them.

Always clearly label every side of a box with what exactly is contained within it. The last thing you want to be doing is constantly turning boxes around in order to see what they are, that is why there needs to be labels on every side in large and legible handwriting.
